Local Rides
Donut Ride
The Donut Ride meets Saturdays at Riviera Village across from Starbucks (Ave. I and PCH) at 8:00 AM in Redondo Beach, an institution in South Bay cycling culture. The ride dates to 1973 and has maintained a reputation for being both beautiful and challenging. It draws many of the region’s fastest riders (when they aren’t racing). Over the years, it has attracted a Tour de France stage winner, an Olympic Gold Medalist, and more than a few national champions as regular participants. This is a consistently hilly route that will challenge you to climb well and still maintain horsepower on the flat.
The Kettle Ride
Ride leaves every Sunday at 7:00 AM from the Center of the Known Universe, across from the Kettle Restaurant from which the ride got its name. It is the United Nations of South Bay Cycling, attracting all manner of biker. Pace varies from moderate to fast, 50 to 100 miles. This ride starts in Manhattan Beach at the corner of Manhattan Beach Blvd and Highland Avenue, heads north up the coast to Malibu with options to continue into the Malibu Hills from there.
New Pier Ride
Leaves every Tuesday and Thursday morning at 6:40 AM from the Manhattan Beach Pier. On Westchester Pkwy there are plenty of places to cut the course and hop back onto the back. Ride finishes with coffee and lies at the Starbucks in Manhattan Beach. Pick up lots of riders in Playa del Rey, and latecomers on the Parkway itself. The finishing sprint on the fourth lap ends at the beginning of the third traffic island. This ride has been around for decades, with various configurations. It's unorganized, and just something that happens.
